Special Program on Geometry and Topology
SPRING 2000
Feza Gursey Institute, Istanbul

This is a research semester on Geometry and Topology, organized to review the latest developments in Symplectic and Complex Geometry, Gromov-Witten Invariants, Mirror Symmetry, Hamiltonian Systems , Symplectic Floer Homology, Seiberg-Witten Theory, and Geometric Topology.

Scientific Committee: Gang Tian (MIT), Ron Stern (Univ. California Irvine), Camrun Vafa (Harvard Univ.), Robion Kirby (Univ. of California, Berkeley), Selman Akbulut (Michigan State Univ.)

Organizing Committee: Turgut Onder (Middle East Technical Univ.), Sergey Finashin (Middle East Technical Univ.), Tekin Dereli (Middle East Technical Univ.), Ayse Humeyra Bilge (Istanbul Technical Univ.), Hasan Gumral (Feza Gursey Institute)

Purpose and Nature

Recently Geometry and Topology have gone through rapid developments. Ideas coming from physics greatly influenced developments in Symplectic Geometry, Gromov-Witten Invariants, Mirror Symmetry and Seiberg-Witten Theory. The aim of this semester is to review latest developments in these fields and promote research. Through a series of lectures/seminars given by visitors and local lectureres we aim to give some background for graduate students and junior faculty as well as up to date information for more advanced researchers.
